I drew Castle on a Cloud during grad school when I was focused on geriatric public health and we spent a lot of time talking about death and dying. I wanted to create a piece that showcases the range of beliefs around what happens after you die from the basic to the more fantastic. We talked a lot about how people often avoid the topic of death and frequently don’t have their wishes met when dying and I wanted to create something interesting that might spur a little more conversation about wishes at death and ideas of the afterlife.
